NEEDLEPOINT is a common form of stitchery that generally uses wool on mono canvas, interlock canvas, or penelope canvas. If one is allergic to wool then six or even nine threads of embroidery cotton can be used.

The stitches used can either be basketweave or continental shown in the following diagrams.

This is CONTINENTAL STITCH - the back should be filled in the same as the front and make sure that the stitches are worked as above to get an even needlepoint look, especially for a background or the finished piece will have a fat row and and thin row.

PETIT POINT uses 1-3 strands of cotton thread on a smaller count of fabric, such as silk gauze or cordova, with a continental stitch. A very fine detailed picture is achieved using this method. The material count is 22, 24, 30 or 40 stitches per inch.

CROSS STITCH uses a variety of thread types such as silk or cotton. Common types of fabric used in cross stitch are Aida, evenweave or linen. The finished stitch makes an X thus the name "cross stitch".

One of the dying arts these days is 1 thread PETIT POINT. Petit Point uses a fabric of 40 count (40 stitches per inch) or smaller for extremely small and detailed finished pieces. The purse pictured here has 1450 stitches per square inch.

We've all done petit point when we were young, love the texture and result, maybe it was the begining of our addiction don't you think so? :)

I am looking for a piece of 14-ct aida cloth approx. 12" x 15" or 18" (or as close to that size as possible). Can you tell me if you carry this item and if so, what is the cost? Thank you and have a great day! Denise
