We could all use a little get-away... some time to spend just doing what we love and chatting with others.
With the renovation we had to do to our 'new' building going over budget and taking almost a year, and then the interest rates going up and up, our furnace dying really hit us hard. And we're not the only ones who are stressed out and going through a hard time; in today's financial and political climate, not to mention the pandemic, everyone is stressed out and in dire need of some fun.
When I thought about fundraising for a new furnace (the furnace is temporarily 'fixed' but needs replacing) I wanted to do something that would be fun for all of us and of course the only possible answer was...stitching! Now, there is no way to improve on stitching as a source of fun, except by adding other stitchers. And then, throw in some lessons on stitching related topics and it's almost too much fun. As a free bonus, everyone who signs up for either the in-person or Zoom retreat, gets a pdf copy of Lizzy B's 'Be a Narwhal' pattern.
What kind of a fundraiser would it be without a silent auction and a 50/50 draw? We don't know, but we will have both (must be in-person to participate in those).
When: Saturday, April 22, 2023. 9am - 5pm CST
Where: St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba - right across the street from the shop.
Or via Zoom: you can join via Zoom and watch the retreat, talk with the other Zoom participants, and join in on the workshops.
What: A day-long retreat where we can stitch, chat, and learn things.
Price: $73.50 for the in-person retreat. $38.50 for the Zoom retreat. Support tickets, for if you can't attend but would like to support the fundraiser are $20.
There will be two workshops during the day:
Kathryn Drummond (Gingerbread Girl Designs) will be teaching a 'Finishing School' where you will learn different techniques to help you finish your small projects like tassels, cords, hoops, and mat board ornament finishing. This will be a demo workshop but if you'd like to purchase printed instructions, they will be $10.
Barbara Best - that's me (Lizzy B's) will be showing you how to stretch your needlework if you plan to frame at home. Obviously we'd love to frame all your projects for you, but we understand that's not realistic, cost-wise so we want to help you learn to stretch your needlework yourself.
The shop will be open if you need to run across the street for supplies.
Schedule:
9am - Welcome & start stitching
10am - Workshop
12pm - Lunch (see below)
1pm - Back from lunch - stitching time
2pm - Workshop
5pm - Time to pack up and go home to try the things you learned.
We didn't include lunch in the cost to keep the costs lower. Some people have talked about doing a pot luck for lunch. There is a kitchen for storage and re-heating. If you're interested let us know and we'll send you the link to the online sign up. There are also restaurants fairly close by.
Want to support the fundraising but can't make the event? Support tickets can be purchased for $20, and we thank you for your support!
