Knitting Course - Beginner



KNITTING: IT’S CHEAPER THAN THERAPY AND TWICE AS COZY.


Join our beginner course and discover how relaxing (and occasionally hilarious) it can be to turn a ball of yarn into something beautiful. Mistakes welcome... they just add character.

Here’s how the six-week course unfolds:

Week 1 garter stitch

Week 2 stocking stitch

Week 3 basket weave

Week 4 basic lace

Week 5 simple cables

Week 6 colour work: colour block

(Patterns will be provided for each week)

You will learn:

  • Cast on: knitted and stranded (long-tail)
  • Continental and/or English style of knitting
  • Bind off
  • Using a life line
  • Adding yarn
  • Tie off / work in ends
  • About various needles
  • About yarn types and sizes
  • How to measure gauge of stitches
  • Gauge swatches
  • How to read written and graph patterns
  • Reading your work
  • Correcting common mistakes
  • Reading yarn labels
  • Blocking finished work

Requirements: 5 balls cotton yarn: different colours if you like, but no variegated colours For colour work: leftovers from previous balls: light, medium & dark 4.5mm (7 US) straight needles (metal preferred as it’s easier to learn with) Large tapestry / darning needle Cable needle Stitch markers Row counter Needle size gauge / ruler Small scissors 5mm (8 U.S.) crochet hook - optional
