Knitting Course - Intermediate
You’ve mastered the basics, now it’s time to show that yarn who’s boss.
Our intermediate knitting course is where cozy comfort meets creative challenge. Expect laughs, a few tangled moments, and plenty of “aha!” victories as your projects get bolder and your confidence grows.
Must have knowledge of:
Stocking stitch
Knitted and stranded (long tail) cast-on
Bind-off
Increase / decrease
Test gauge swatch
The six-week journey is structured like this:
Week 1 worsted weight toque on circular needles for magic loop
(change to DPN’s for decreasing)
Week 2 two-at-a-time top-down socks (fingering weight), splicing yarn
Week 3 traditional flap heel or sling heel + life line
Week 4 shaping toe and Kitchener stitch (grafting toe)

Week 5 multiple cables (dishcloth)
Week 6 colour work: fair isle knitting (dishcloth)
(Patterns will be provided for each week)
You will learn:
- knitting in the round: on double pointed needles and magic loop
- Top-down, two-at-a-time socks
- Toe-up, two-at-a-time socks
- Kitchener stitch (grafting toes of socks or shoulders)
- Two methods of turning the heel
- Two methods of toe-up cast-on
- Provisional cast-on
- Multiple cables
- Fair isle knitting

| Requirements: | TOQUE: 100 gram ball worsted weight yarn + <10 m> contrast yarn 5mm DPN’s and 5mm circular needle 80cm / 32" (or size to result in 24 sts = 4") SOCKS: sock (fingering) weight yarn for 2 pairs of socks (2 x 100 gram ball / skein or 4 x 50 gram balls) 2.75mm DPN’s 2.75mm 102cm / 40" circular needles (or size to result in 32 sts = 4") DISHCLOTHS: 4.5mm straight needles 1 ball cotton yarn for cable dishcloth 1 ball contrasting colours (leftovers) for fair isle dishcloth Gauge ruler / measuring tape Cable needle Tapestry needle Stitch markers Row counter |
